Yvonne Norton

My Practise surrounds the themes of childhood, nostalgia, and memory. How stories are shared, altered, and distorted through their inheritance. The works explore my relationships with my maternal family, our shared traits and narrative. The identities of my mother, grandmother, and theirs before. These moments are depicted through my photographs and the frilly details become foggy. My work plays around with the ownership and inheritance of memory and how this in turn reflects the collective identity of my family.

Utilising the medium of embossed relief printing I aim to capture the impression of what was once there, even when forgotten, the absence is still felt and apparent. With each new work and extension of these ideas, it allows me as an artist to explore different facets built around these core notions of matrilineal line, shared history, and identity.
