Ted Bowers

My practice encompasses mediums such as film, sculpture, and collage, revolves primarily around exploring the strange aesthetics and existential conditions of life under technofeudalism. Most of my works involve adapting symbols and tropes from science fiction, using the readily available physical and digital detritus of the 2020s to blur the lines between the present, the near future, and the far future. As artificial intelligence, climate change, and genocide are all boiling over, how can anyone say we are not already living through apocalypse? My goal has been to create an accessible visual language in which the darkest aspects of late-stage capitalism can be reframed through a childlike lens, to make the extremities of the world more stark but simultaneously easier to digest and hopefully then resist. The sooner we see that we are living in dystopia, the sooner we might change things.
