Simin Lin

My practice explores time through personal perception and recollection. Inspired by literature and temporal theories, my work exists in the space where time and perception overlap. Perception intertwines with time's impermanent nature, and I reimagine this entanglement as sediment accumulating layer by layer through identical intervals and steady tempo. This process of remembering reshapes my temporal perception, allowing new narratives to emerge from durational experiences.

I seek to deviate from the functional aspects of time by stripping away its association with precise measurement. By casting a range of time-measuring instruments in plaster, I transform them into rough, obsolete vessels of memory. They lose their validity, as if they have endured so long that they begin to wear away, becoming bearers of time rather than its agents.
