I’m interested in everyday life, working with materials and readymade objects to explore impermanence and the impacts of gentrification.
Occupy, invest, develop, is made from observations at a building site that is being developed into luxury homes next to public housing in Carlton. The installation is a response to the planned demolition of 44 public housing towers in Victoria, which was announced by Dan Andrews in 2023, without any consultation with residents and limited land to build new homes.
Two videos are projected, Chin Deep showing human presence at the site with graffiti on signage, while Calgon St shows obscured images of machinery at work; views of construction we may pass by each day.
Scaffolding and industrial materials form a 2.1m high structure, with no entry point and only offering partial glimpses of what is inside. The gradual loss of public housing and spaces signals a reshaping of inner-city land and existing neighbourhoods.
