Mia Nugent

I want to create a sense of my milieu (a French word meaning middle space referring to an environment or setting). I aim to create a representation of places or objects I interact with but specifically how my body interacts with them. My adoration for objects and of stories collecting in virtual and my reality. Living with chronic illness, I find joy and somewhat a bond with my objects; they are a part of me, to comfort, to worship, to create a space. A rethinking of an in-between place, bodily interrogations and the abject. Looking at connectivity between comfort/discomfort, sweet/grotesque. Intertwined with abstractions of thought, internal and external exhaustion. I use a wide variety of mediums, mostly creating soft sculptures out of fabric, textiles and felt. I also use a combination of found objects and handmade soft sculptures to depict the manifestations of unconscious compulsions between the sweet and the abject.
