Ella Rawson

My practice involves delicate hand-built objects that are held gently, enveloped and caressed by the materials that move around them. Through thinking about ecological systems and the necessity for balance in nature, my practice aims to evoke feelings of tenderness and care through these suspended moments. The studio is its own ecology, with its own systems and cycles. New nodes sprout, quiet and incidental, growing into something more.

For example, wax that has coiled to look like a young flower swaying precariously off cut wire; a baby capsicum cast in porcelain that protrudes from the wall as if the frail stem that holds it is made of iron. It is these moments that are generative for me and my practice.

During my studies I began Twigg Space, a narrow 60cm x 240cm gallery, that holds curated shows in direct response to its size. Now doubled in width, it continues, cross-pollinating disciplines and fostering community.
