Anna Devine

The Spaces Between explores the mind-body connection and the spaces – physical, emotional and the metaphysical in-between, where consciousness is created and memory lives. Driven by a deep interest in the function of memory and its embodied nature, this work invites the audience to contemplate what exists in the spaces of their own bodies.

The process of hand-building human bones in porcelain, with each gesture of pushing, pulling and shaping imbues the material with a thought, an emotion or a memory. Externalised outside of the mind and body, its meaning can be altered, sometimes permanently.
